In addition to our mainstage productions, Troupe 5590 presents a number of smaller events in our theatre. These showcases are a fun way to dip your toes into performing or technical theatre and are often fundraising opportunities for our Boosters Club. Most years, the first time Troupe 5590 performs for an audience is the lip-sync show. Held in September or October, performers prepare their own lip syncs, audition them with Mrs. Timberlake, and, if accepted, perform their song for an excited crowd. Typically, Mrs. Timberlake begins the year in her Theatre 1 and Theatre 2/3 classes with a lip sync unit, giving Troupe members time to prepare and rehearse their routine. Lip-sync for your life, since this show is a competition and each year we crown a winning lip-sync.
The Cabaret, also known as Broadway Night, is a showcase of all of the talent at PHU. Students audition with any act of their choice. Most commonly, students audition with singing or acting, but talents off all varieties are welcome and encouraged. Students in chorus or musical theatre classes taught by Mr. Hudson prepare a song to perform as an entire class. Additionally, Mrs. Timberlake often dedicates class time to allowing students to prepare their acts.
