What are the Annual Competitions?

The annual competitions that Troupe 5590 participates in are FTC, District Thespians, and State Thespian Festival. There is a brief synopsis for each competition below, with a link to the respective website to get more information.

FTC At A Glance

About: The Florida Theatre Conference (FTC) is a multi day event where thespians from around Florida showcase their one acts and participate in workshops that foster growth in theatrical talents and stimulate interest and participation in theatre.

NOTE: Not all students will be eligible to attend the Florida Theatre Conference. Generally this conference is reserved for Upperclassmen who are invited to attend the festival by Mrs. Timberlake. Students selected to perform in the annual One Act will participate in this festival and showcase their work to judges as a graded assignment for the 7th period class.

District Thespians

District Thespians At A Glance

About: The District IV Thespian festival is a 3-Day event where thespians from District IV compete with their one act performances for the first two days t=and on the final they compete with their performing and technical Individual Events. Note that Thespians competition is an entirely separate from Thespians Honors Society, and participation in one is not necessarily required for the other.

What is an Individual Event? What’s a One Act? What’s a District IV? For more information visit the District IV Thespian Website. For questions on how to be involved with Districts or becoming a member of Districts Crew, contact the current District Representative (Ameila Walton) or Junior District Representative (Emmary Hunt).

NOTE: Not all students will be eligible to attend the District Thespian Festival. Students must audition/apply to attend the festival with Mrs.Timberlake and/or Mr.Hudson.

State Thespians

State Thespians

State Thespians At A Glance

About: The State Thespian Festival is the final competition of the year, where the top scoring thespians from the districts around Florida gather to present their pieces one last time. This includes One Acts, Individual Events, and Mainstage Productions which are screened and selected to be ticketed student performances in one of three theatres in Tampa, FL.

State Dates: Tampa 2023: March 15-18

Tampa 2024: March 13-16

NOTE: Not all students will be eligible to attend the festival. This is determined by the club sponsors purely from a performing and experience perspective.

Eligibility to attend State is determined by the Thespian’s scores at the District IV Thespian Festival and being selected by Mrs. Timberlake and Mr. Hudson to represent the Troupe at the Festival.
