FTC, or the Florida Theatre Conference, is a four-day long conference held in Winter Haven, during which students can showcase their school’s one act play, view other one acts, participate in workshops, and experience an authentic college audition. This year, FTC will be held from Wednesday, November 2 through Saturday, November 5. Since the conference is multiple weekdays, you will have to miss a couple days of school in order to attend this event.
The primary reason Troupe 5590 attends is to have a trial run of performing our one act play for a panel of judges before district festival. For this reason, this event is typically only attended by those in Theatre IV Honors, IB Theatre or Pre-IB Theatre II, as those are the students involved in the one act play. We will need parent chaperones to accompany us on the journey to Winter Haven as well, so communicate with your parents to see if they are interested in this trip.
Aside from the couple of hours when we set up for, perform, and receive judge feedback on our one act play, students are free to explore the conference. This includes talking to representatives from colleges and checking out tables at the college fair, auditioning for said colleges (more info on later slides), watching one act plays from other schools, attending fun and educational workshops, and networking with artistic students from across the state. Students are required to remain at the festival until it ends in the evening or we leave as a troupe.
